Publicity Arrangements on the Scheme

This paper seeks members' advice on the proposed strategy for publicising the implementation of the British nationality scheme (the Scheme).

The proposed overall strategy is to keep the public informed as much as possible of the implementation of the Scheme and of the work of the Steering Committee generally, without disclosing information on detailed discussions or individual cases.

PUBLICITY FOR THE SCHEME

The Administration has so far maintained a factual approach in publicising the Scheme. It believes that the Scheme has already caught the wide attention of the local community and any high-profile publicity would be criticised as excessive and might provoke the Chinese to renew their public attack on the Scheme.
