While I was in Hong Kong recently, I raised the possibility of a visit by the Trade and Industry Select Committee to Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta area, with both Lydia Dunn and David Ford, the Chief Secretary. Both see advantage in the Select Committee seeing the reality of economic progress across the border. A good time for the visit (both to ensure the presence of the people that the Committee would wish to meet and for climatic reasons) would be about the time of the opening of the new session of the Legislative Council in mid-October.
David has asked me to say that we would be happy to provide partial sponsorship (that is the cost of hotel accommodation and organisation of a programme of visits in Hong Kong, but excluding air fares) for a stay on your way into China.
