Dear Lydia

It was a great pleasure to see you on my recent visit to Hong Kong, and I am grateful to you for arranging the meeting and splendid lunch with Members of OMELCO on 3 April. I found it extremely useful to be able to hear the opinions of the Council's Members which helped to confirm many of the views I had formed in London. In other cases they cast a new light on particular areas of concern.

I managed to raise some of the points touched on at the meeting with the Chinese authorities. Although my visit did not achieve the important objective of securing Chinese agreement for the Airport project, it was useful in that I was able to speak to them on a wide range of other issues of interest to Hong Kong.
