HONG KONG STEERING COMMITTEE: INITIAL PLANNING:SATELLITE

COMMUNICATIONS

1. You will no doubt recall that, at last Friday's Steering Committee on Hong Kong, I undertook to provide the co-ordinates for INMARSAT's Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean communications satellites.

2. These are as follows:-

INDIAN OCEAN : Azimuth 250 degrees, Elevation 30 degrees.

PACIFIC OCEAN : Azimuth 100 degrees, Elevation 15 degrees.

3. The azimuth bearing is clockwise, relative to true north.

4.

From a communications point of view it is likely that the Indian Ocean satellite would provide the best service in Hong Kong because of the greater elevation angle of the satellite dish.
