Section 2
Design Brief: Staff Housing
Requirements.
30. Nine family units of accommodation are required for diplomatic staff :
An SOR for Staff Accomodation is provided under Annex A(2).
Design Factors.
31. The units accommodate British families. Design requirements match those for any well-designed British home. However, the environment and climate impose particular requirements in this case: design objectives given on page 9 apply to Staff accommodation with equal importance.
32. Shaded external space is disirable either in the form of a shaded patio / terrace as appropriate to the design.
33. Diplomatic staff entertain within their own homes on an official basis. Internal layouts should bear entertainment in mind. Circulation between external service areas, kitchens and dining spaces should not interfere with visitor circulation between entrance halls, living and dining areas, to enable dinner parties to proceed without interference, or disturbance to childrens' bedroom areas.
34. Quarters for nine single servants are to be
provided. If it is pratical they should be located in a seperate compound outside the secure perimeter and screened from view: this would be the ideal in these circumstances the quarters should be planned around a shaded communal space and planned for general use. The alternative is to locate them adjacent to the staff units of accommodation.
35. Amenities and Facilities to be provided are a swimming pool, gym, childrens play area and an external sitting. area. ( see SOR items). These are primarily for the use of occupants of the staff units of accommodation but may also be used by other members of staff.
