I am writing on behalf of Mr. Lau Yam Hei of The Mandarin Restaurant, 2 Barrows Lane, Heysham, Lancs, LA3 2RP in connec- tion with his pursuit for compensation for land acquired by the District Office of Hong Kong and New Territories.
The background to Mr.Lau Yam Hei's claim is as follows.
Mr.Lau Yam Hei came to the U.K. as a young man in 1955. this, he had worked for the British Army for four years. reference for this period is attached, if proof of his identity is needed (Appendix A).

On 4th September 1973, Mr. Lau Yam Hei's father, Lau Yik Yak, died intestate in Hong Kong following an illness. (A copy of the death certificate is attached (Appendix B). At the time of his death, Mr.Lau Yik Yak was the owner of a number of lots in the New Territories. A copy of a list of the said lots held by Mr.Lau Yik Yak in 1960 is enclosed ( Appendix C). As a result of some family disagreements Letters of Administration were not applied for until 1979.
In 1975 Mr. Lau Yam Hei was informed that during the previous year the District Office of the New Territories had acquired a valuable piece of land from his father's estate, Lot no. 1487 S.B. (I understand that the Government have legal authority to take land for their own use, but that compensation is subsequen- tally arranged for the owner.)
In 1979 Mr. Lau Yam Hei went to Hong Kong to follow up the matter of compensation. Mr.Lau Yam Hei's solicitors in Hong Kong wrote to the District Office, enquiring about the compensation money for Lot no. 1487 S.B. in D.D. 221. A copy of a letter on this matter from the solicitor, dated 28th March 1979, and a copy of the reply from the District Office, dated 20th April 1979 are
