Kan-cheung
On 16 November 1979 CHAN Kan-cheung (the Prisoner)
was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Following unsuccessful appeals against conviction and sentence his death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by the Governor in Council on 4 May 1981. The Prisoner aged 37, sentenced has been imprisoned for almost 10 years..

The grounds for this request are as follows:

that the Prisoner is remorseful
that the Prisoner studies Buddhism and wishes to become
a Buddhist monk in order to preach the Buddhist message, in the hope of serving society in compensation for his
mistakes
The petition does not impugn the correctness of either the Prisoner's conviction or the commutation of his sentence.
