The United

Kingdom ratified

this Convention

on

17 November 1989 and Hong Kong was not included in such

ratification (see Annex A).

By а speaking note dated 5 January 1989, the

British side consulted the Chinese side on the continued

application of the Convention to the Hong Kong SAR after

1997 (Annex B). By a speaking note dated 1 March 1989,

the Chinese side expressed no objection to the application

of the Convention to Hong Kong (see Annex C). This Convention

was then extended to Hong Kong on 30 March 1990 (see Annex D).

The international rights and obligations affecting

Hong Kong arising from this
