on "Growth and structural adjustment in the Asian region". It is hoped that concrete conclusions in regard to this technical item will emerge from the plenary discussion. Participants intending to speak on the Director-General's Report may accordingly wish to address the technical item in as specific and practical a manner as possible by concentrating on the identification of problems, on proposing measures to be taken by the parties concerned and on the possible ILO contribution in this field in order to facilitate the task of the drafting group which the Conference is expected to appoint for the purpose of formulating conclusions. To save time, speeches in plenary should be as brief and to the point as possible, reducing complimentary remarks and the like to a strict minimum.

The second technical item ("Improving occupational safety and health") will be considered in the first instance by a committee to be set up by the Conference.

I have also to remind you of the provisions of Article 13, paragraph 1, of the Rules, in which it is laid down that no resolution relating to a matter not included in an item on the agenda shall be moved at any sitting of the Conference unless its text has been deposited with the Director-General of the International Labour Office at least 15 days before the opening of the Conference, by a delegate to the Conference. As the Conference is due to open on 26 November 1991, the last date for the deposit of such resolutions is 11 November.
