1. You may recall that, at the beginning of the year, I circulated to you and to Mr Fifoot a translation of the contents list of a Chinese

book on the future legal system of the Hong Kong SAR which you had received from the Embassy in Peking. I now attach my home made translation of the first Chapter, which I hope will give you a better indication of the flavour of the work. I cannot guarantee complete accuracy, as you will notice from time to time I did get rather lost in the morass of the language. I am now, however, in a position to move rather more quickly on further translations, as we at last have the requisite secretarial assistance. I would be grateful if you have any suggestions as to whether you would like me to proceed with the project, and, if so, whether there are any section or chapters you would like me to tackle first.
