Amnesty International, the world-wide Human Rights and Peace-keeping organi- zation, which you may know, has asked me to appeal to you to cease exe- cuting people.
We are concerned at the proposal to resume executions in Hong Kong an are opposed to the death penalty on the grounds that itconstitutes the ultimate form of cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment and that it violates the
right to life.
The effectiveness of the death penalty is being increasingly questioned, and the resumption of executions would be contraty to both world and regional trends toward its abolition.
B
As a member of Amnesty Inaternational, and of the Human Race I respectfully urge you to do what you can in your power to treat prisoners
as you are as you would wish MEMBERS OF YOUR OWN FAMILY OR FRIENS TO BE TREATED under similar circumstances: Humanely and Mercifully, and grant them fair trials,
speedy release and return to their loved ones.
(Please Pardon the slip)
and
Respectf
