Nationality Rules
1. For entry into the Royal Air Force, a candidate must at all times since birth have been a Commonwealth citizen (see attached SIRO Annexes for a full definition of this phrase) or a citizen of the Irish Republic, as must both parents. In addition the candidate and parents should have been born in a Commonwealth country or the Republic of Ireland. citizens of South Africa who are not dual nationals are considered aliens and are, therefore,
ineligible for service in the RAF even though they or their parents were born at a time when that country was a member of the
Commonwealth.
2. Waivers of the Nationality rules can be considered only if the applicant is a British Commonwealth citizen at the time of application.

Coupled with the Nationality rules is the question of
liability for National Service or conscription in the forces of another country. If a candidate is likely to have any such liability, he or she will be required to produce written evidence
from the appropriate Government department of the country concerned that their liability would cease if they were to join
the RAF.
