The role of the future Airport Authority is
basically two-fold :-
(a) to oversee the planning and implementation of
the new airport at Chek Lap Kok; and
(b) once completed, to operate the airport on
sound commercial principles and in accordance
overall government policies on civil
with
aviation.
We expect the Authority to be established in 1992. In the
meantime the Provisional Airport Authority has been set up
under the chairmanship of the Financial Secretary to take
forward the immediate work of planning and implementing the
airport project.
Considerations leading to the decision to
set up an Authority

The
decision to establish a statutory Authority to
develop and manage the new airport at Chek Lap Kok was
taken after very careful consideration of the institutional
