planned
speed
for Central and the new reclamation at West Kowloon
with a
third smaller station at Tsing Yi. In parallel with
the high
link, a domestic service will also be
provided to the new airport. This will initially serve six
stations and will provide relief for the Nathan Road
Corridor. Two more stations will be added when development
on Lantau warrants their provision.
21. The rail will run substantially at grade along North
Lantau, but will have a 1 km and a 2 km stretches of bored
tunnel as it approaches and leaves the Lantau Fixed
Crossing, before arriving at Tsing Yi. The alignment will
cross the Rambler Channel on elevated structure and remain
elevated to Lai King Station. South of Lai King, the
railway will enter a 0.5 kilometre-section of tunnel to
emerge just to the north of Kwai Chung Road. From here it
will run on an elevated structure to the domestic service
station at Tai Kok Tsui which will be constructed on the
south-west corner of the existing reclamation. The
remainder of the route to Central will be built via cut and
cover tunnel and immersed tube construction.
22. The prospective operator of the Airport Railway is the Mass Transit Railway Corporation which is currently undertaking investigation work relating to the design of the Railway and the interfacing with other. ACP projects.
That part of Central and Wanchai Reclamation relating to the Airport Railway
23. An area of reclamation which is considered essential
for the ACP is the portion required for the construction of the Hong Kong Terminus of the Airport Railway, its approach
and over-run tunnels,
together with efficient vehicle and
pedestrian access routes
to
connect the Terminus with
existing transport infrastructure.
