2. The RHKAAF is also being expanded and upgraded in the run-up to 1997.

Slingby Aviation secured a contract for 4 T67 aircraft, to replace the current

fleet of Bulldog trainer and reconnaissance aircraft. Unfortunately the UK was

less successful in its bid to provide the RHKAAF with utility helicopters.

However, although the RHKAAF eventually ordered 8 Sikorsky S-76 helicopters

earlier this year, GEC Sensors and Racal Avionics have secured contracts in

excess of £1M for sub-systems (Sensor Turrets and Doppler Navigation systems)

and follow-on orders are expected.

3. Recently, Racal Avionics were accused of not living up to expectations in

the supply of Auto-Hover/Avionics Equipment to RHKAAF via Sikorsky. Racal claim

that all problems have now been resolved to the satisfaction of both the Hong

Kong authorities and the US Prime Contractor. DESO will monitor progress.

PATROL BOATS

-

a. The Royal Hong Kong Marine Police (RHKMP) has a requirement for 6

Divisional Patrol Command Launcher (DCPL) these will replace (in 1992)

the 6 launcher built by Vosper Thornycroft between 1965 and 1972. Both

Vosper Thornycroft and FBM Marine are actively pursuing this requirement

and the companies' vessels have been closely examined by the RHKMP. The

Director of the GSD recently examined craft operated by the United States

Coastguard (Vosper) and the Bahamas Defence Force (FBM). We understand

that the RHKMP were favourably impressed and that both British designs

will satisfy the customer's operational requirements.
