Another large-scale promotion took place in the United Kingdom, where the Council organised a display of Hong Kong products and fashion products with the House of Fraser department store group. Entitled "Hong Kong in Vogue", the event showcased a wide range of products from garments, houseware and kitchenware to Chinese porcelain, linen, carpets and l'objets d'art at some 20 stores, including Dickens and Jones, D H Evans, Kendal's and Rackham's, in 17 cities. The project was organised in conjunction with “Vogue”, the leading international fashion maga- zine, which printed a special ten-page sec- tion on Hong Kong design, and "House and Garden".

The traditional Berkeley Dinner was held once again in London in December 1990,

in the presence of guest of honour Lord Caithness, the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs with Special Responsibility for Hong Kong, and His Excellency The Governor of Hong Kong, Sir David Wilson. The TDC's Chairman, Baroness Dunn, hosted the event, which was attended by Hong Kong OMELCO members, Members of Parliament, senior government officials and prominent business figures from the United Kingdom. Prior to the dinner, the Council organised a high-powered seminar entitled, "Hong Kong: Into The Nineties". Altogether 152 distinguished guests, including the chairmen and senior executives of many leading multi-national companies, heard Hong Kong speakers talk about current and projected developments in the territory. Topics covered included "The Current State of Hong Kong's Economy and Development in the Nineties", by the Hon. Allen Lee, Senior Legislative Council Member; and "Hong Kong as a Financial and Services Centre", delivered by the Chairman of the Hongkong Bank, Mr William Purves.

Throughout Europe, the TDC's network of 11 offices and consultants promoted Hong Kong's trading capability through diverse activities. In addition to handling trade enquiries, organising trade missions to Hong Kong, recruiting exhibitors and buyers to Hong Kong fairs, conducting publicity campaigns, and participating in or visiting international trade events, day- to-day tasks included regular calls on importers, wholesalers, and department store chains. During the year, Hong Kong Information Days were also organised in co-operation with many European chambers of commerce, and numerous consultations held with trade and business associations.
