officials and leading business people, including Secretary for Trade and Industry, Mr John Chan; Secretary for Economic Services, the Hon. Anson Chan and Senior Legco Member, the Hon. Allen Lee, spoke at CeBIT's "Business with Hong Kong" conference programme, co-organised by the TDC. The business seminars centred on Hong Kong's electronics industry and the potential for commercial and technical co-operation between Hong Kong and Europe, with particular emphasis on joint- venture opportunities.

sector and Government, were represented a: CeBIT, which proved an ideal forum for expanding business contacts, illustrating the strengths of Hong Kong's electronics industry, and publicising the territory's attractions as a business and service centre. The commercial delegation gained firm and pending orders totalling a record HK$827 million.

Other major European exhibitions in which Hong Kong manufacturers participated included the European Watch, Clock and Jewellery Fair in Basel, Switzerland, in

the IGEDO Inter- national Fashion Fair in Dusseldorf, Donna Italia in Milan and the Munich Inter- national Fashion Fair. Delegations attended the Inter-

national Household Appliances Trade Fair in Paris and the

DOMOTECHNICA in Cologne, while audio and video

delegations went to the SONIMAG in Barcelona and the HIFI/PHOTOKINA Fair in Cologne, and Hong Kong sports fashion and equipment manufacturers attended the ISPO Fair in Munich.

The TDC also aimed to encourage greater diversification of products in Hong Kong exports to Europe. To this end the Council matched specific manufacturing sectors in Hong Kong to new market sectors with high potential. Working closely with local trade associations, the Council assisted several specialised industry missions, in- cluding a Watch and Clock mission to
