Stephen Cheong, Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries; Mr Gordon Wu, Managing Director of Hopewell Holdings Ltd; Mr Bernard Asher, Chairman of Wardley Ltd and Mr Jack So, the Council's Executive Director.
In other South-East Asian markets, the TDC focused on the promotion of Hong Kong machinery and industrial supplies to capitalise on rapid industrial and economic growth. The Council organised participation in machinery trade fairs in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, including the 4th Malaysian International Trade Fair of Industrial Development Technology & Equipment in Kuala Lumpur, the 6th INTERMACH in
Bangkok and the Philippines International Machinery Show in Manila.
In Malaysia, the Council mounted a store promotion with the Parkson Grand Department Store in Kuala Lumpur to improve further consumer awareness of Hong Kong products in a market gradually easing its import restrictions.
In recognition of the burgeoning market in Thailand, the Council opened a consultant office in November, 1990. The role of the new office is to extend the Council's
range of services to the country's business sector and to monitor the progress of trade liber- alisation.
INDOCHINA
Hong Kong's domestic exports to Indochina have risen four-fold during the last decade and trade opportunities continue to in-
crease.

DINNER RECEPTION MARCH 5th 1991 INTERNATIONAL CLUB
6:00-8:00PM HANDI VIET NAM
Much of the Council's research work dur- ing the year focused on Vietnam, which is still liberalising and reforming its economy. An information counter featuring Hong Kong business and the TDC's services was incorporated into the stand of the Chinese Manufacturers' Association at the Quang Trung Trade Fair in Ho Chi Minh City and a fact-finding mission was organised to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This mission appraised first-hand the potential for trade and industrial co-operation with Vietnam and also established many new contacts.
AUSTRALIA
AND NEW ZEALAND
Although trade with this region was affected by the depressed economies of both Australia and New Zealand, the Council maintained a strong presence through, business groups and trade fairs.
Business groups visited Sydney and Mel bourne and a series of wool knitwear pro- motions were organised in co-operation with the Australian Wool Corporation. The Council also took part in the International Toy & Hobby Fair in Australia and the Auckland Gift Fair in New Zealand.
