The conference will be attended by 180 people including, we would expect, a number of Ambassadors from the Far Eastern markets but, in the main, the very large investment institutions from the United States, Japan, Europe and, of course, this country. The conference will take place at Claridges on Monday 16th September and if you felt it was a suitable and useful platform for you to say a few encouraging words about the future in Hong Kong, it would be marvellous if you could do the official opening of the conference at 10.00 a.m. that morning.
Naturally, I and Smith New Court would be delighted but I felt also that, with over of a hundred of the world's biggest investment institutions present, it would be appropriate if somebody from the British Government could say a few words expressing their hopes and confidence in Hong Kong as they enter the next century.
If it was any help to assist you in coming that morning, I would be only too delighted to do the school run!!
With every good wish,
ле
PETER WALKER
