Arming of Fisheries Protection Vesels

As promised in my telegram dated 28 October 1991, I am writing to provide you further information on this subject.

Armament

(a) Police launches

(b) Customs launches

.38 Special Smith and Wesson Model

10 revolvers

5.56 mm AR 15 rifles

9 mm Sterling sub-machine guns

0.5" Browning heavy machine guns

.38 Smith and Wesson Model 10

revolvers

.38 Colt (145g) revolvers

5.56 mm H & K and SMG HK 53 sub- machine guns

Remington Model 870 shotguns.

Legislative framework

The legal authority for these vessels to carry armaments contained in Section 3 of the Firearms and Ammunition Ordinance, Cap 238, Laws of Hong Kong copy attached.

Rules of engagement

I attach copies of the relevant sections of the Police General Orders and Customs & Excise Standing Orders. There are no separate rules of engagement for launches.

I hope the above is useful to you. We do not have your problems concerning fisheries protection.
