SPEAKING NOTE
There has been an alarming surge in the past few weeks
of incidents in Deep Bay involving Chinese Patrol Vessels
(CPVs). The most recent of these incidents are particularly disturbing in that they leave the RHKP with little doubt that
members of the Chinese security forces are involved in criminal
acts in Hong Kong waters.
1.
At 0010 hrs on 8 November officers on board Patrol
Vessel (PV) 34 in Deep Bay saw an unlit wooden sampan
east of Nim Wan beacon at map reference HQ 010825,
heading towards Southwest Point. The sampan was about 10 metres x 3 metres, equipped with two outboard engines and appeared to contain a quantity of boxes covered with canvas. Three males were seen on board,
one, (who appeared to be in uniform) using a hand-held
radio.
PV 34 signalled the sampan and then fired a flare. One of those on the sampan shouted "Ji gei yau" (we
are as one). PV 35 then joined in the pursuit, two more flares were fired and the police officers
attempted to board the sampan.
At this stage they
became aware of a white hulled speedboat behind them.
This was identified as Gong Bian 0841. It contained 7
men, 5 in green uniform.
2 of those in uniform on the speedboat pointed type 56
assault rifles at the RHKP officers and shouted that
the sampan should disregard the RHKP officers and proceed into Chinese waters.
Both the sampan and the speedboat were last sighted at map reference GQ 990875 at 0825 hrs. on 8 November.
