CHANGE OF AMBASSADOR (NON-RESIDENT) TO BURKINA

Spokesman announced that the Queen had been pleased to approve the appointment of Miss M I Rothwell, HM Ambassador to Abidjan, to be additionally HM Ambassador (non-resident) to the People's Democratic Republic of Burkina in succession to Mrs V E Sutherland CMG, who had taken up a new appointment in London.

Spokesman announced that the Queen had been pleased to approve the appointment of Mr A CD S MacRae CMG, British High

Commissioner-designate to Nigeria, to be concurrently HM Ambassador (non-resident) to the Republic of Benin in succession to Mr B L Barder, who would be taking on a further Diplomatic Service appointment.

BURDEN SHARING: CONTRIBUTION BY HONG KONG

Spokesman made the following statement:

"The Finance Committee of the Legislative Council in Hong Kong has today approved a proposal to make a voluntary contribution of HK $230 million (£15 million) towards HMG's costs arising from the conflict in the Gulf. We warmly welcome this decision.

Hong Kong shares our interest in stability in the Middle East. contribution is much appreciated."
