Advertisements have already been placed in local and overseas newspapers. This was accompanied by media publicity and direct mailing to overseas universities. Locally, a series of career talks were given at the tertiary institutions. The closing dates for local and overseas applications are 16 September and
12 October 1991 respectively. Eligible applicants will be invited to sit for the written examination on 9 November 1991.

standing of China and generally equip them for more effective contact with PRC officials in the future
A familiarization visit to Peking for Administrative Officers has been scheduled for the week commencing 7 October 1991. The team of six officers will be led by an acting AOSGB and comprise three AOSGCS and two timescale AOS. The visit programme is being finalized.
A senior seminar for Branch Secretaries and selected Heads of Department will be held on 4 October 1991. Sinologist Dr Thomas Robinson will speak on "America, China and Russia in the New World Order". Arrangements are being made to invite Professor Schram to conduct a Senior Seminar in mid-November.
Mr Brian Hook has accepted our offer of a short-term appointment during which he will organize seminars for AOS, help to set up a China database, and advise on future plans for the China Studies Programme.
