Dear mur Jamné

т

I have now been able to look into the points raised in the letter which you gave to me on 30 May, on behalf of members of the Concerned British Expatriates Society, about the possible implications of the residency requirement for naturalisation under the British Nationality Act.

It is understandable that you and other members of your Society should be concerned about the implications of the Act in the circumstances which you describe in your letter. I have therefore had a matter taken up with the Home Office, who have responsibility for policy in this

area.

The Minister of State at the Home Office, Mr Tim Renton, has just written to Mr Stuart Randall MP, who had made enquiries on your behalf. I enclose for your convenience a copy of Mr Renton's letter, which sets out the position in some detail. Mr Randall will no doubt be writing to you about this very soon, if he has not already done so. I hope that you find Mr Renton's reply of some assistance, although I am well aware that it does not provide you with the answer you were seeking.

J W Denné Esq
