Dear Michael,

Many thanks for faxing me a copy of your letter of May 2 to the Home Secretary.

we understand that the Government is considering some "provisions" to address our circumstances but from what we can gather they are likely to fall woefully short of what we need.

Anything less than what we ask, and what you so kindly have suggested in the final paragraph of your letter to Mr Waddington, is not likely to be enough to give us the confidence to stay. Frankly, we cannot rely on verbal assurances or conditional arrangements dependant on future events. With the passage of time the practical application of any provisions can be modified or reversed.

Your support on this important matter is most welcome.

Yours sincerely,

Julian Walsh Chairman
