20 occupational groups are set out in Annex 1 to the draft

Apart

from

these occupational groups, a quota of 500 places in the GOC has been set aside for applicants from "approved occupations". These occupations will be approved by the Governor, in addition to the 20 specified occupational groups, as those providing technical skills or professional qualifications which the Governor considers to be necessary or desirable for the continued successful administration of Hong Kong. These occupations, being selected in consultation with HMG,

will probably include Social Work Professionals, Physial and

Science

Associate

Professionals, Translators/Interpreters, Life Science Technicians, Physical Science Technicians, Statistical Assistants, and Computing Equipment Controllers.

(b) Disciplined Services Class (DSC)

Part III of the Order provides for the Miscellaneous Classes which include the Disciplined Services Class. Selection of candidates will follow the points system devised for GOC. Minor modifications, set out in Part III, have been made to suit the special circumstances of the disciplined services.

The number of places for each disciplined service will be allocated on a pro-rata basis according

according their strength.

Part III of the Order also provides for the Governor to recommend applicants in the Sensitive Service Class in respect of those who have rendered service of a sensitive nature to the Crown or have engaged in other activities which the Governor considers to be of a particularly sensitive character.

It also sets out in Article 24 of the Order the criteria to which the Governor will have regard in selecting candidates in the Entrepreneurs Class.

The selection of candidates under SSC and EC will not be point-driven and a certain degree of subjective judgement will be unavoidable.
