Once a beneficiary under the scheme ceases to reside in Hong Kong he loses any claim to benefit further from the special provisions of the Bill. His spouse then falls to be considered under the normal nationality
provisions which do not allow a spouse to acquire British citizenship by virtue of the marriage.
If this were not the case, key personnel in Hong Kong would be tempted to leave the territory in order to secure an assurance for their wives and families.
