HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD CRITERION

16.

Only a UKPH who is a head of household is eligible to receive a voucher. The following categories are considered to be heads of household for the purposes of the special voucher Scheme:-

women over the age of 18 who are:

single; or

widoved; or

divorced; or

marridd to a man who is incapable of fulfilling the role of head of household for medical reasons.

These categories are further defined in paragraphs 15 to 21 below.

Dependent children (ie those who are unmarried and unemployed) between the ages of 18 and 25 are eligible to receive special vouchers in their own right if their parents have not applied for vouchers and if they intend to go to the UK for settlement without their parents. In such circumstances the child may be issued with a voucher on the grounds that he will be head of household when he arrives in the United Kingdom. If, however, the parents have applied for vouchers and will be travelling to the UI for settlement then the child, if listed as a dependant in.his parent's application, should be issued with a dependant EC to. accompany or join his parents.

16. A woman who is engaged should be treated as a single woman and is, therefore, eligible to receive a voucher. If, however, such a woman marries after receiving her voucher but before travelling to the UK she loses her entitlement to the voucher (see paragraphs 24

and 25).

A special voucher should not be issued to a widow unless satisfactory evidence of the husband's death has been seen.

A special voucher should not be issued to a divorced woman unless evidence of the divorce has been seen and the Entry Clearance Officer is satisfied that the divorce is not one of convenience. necessary, enquiries should be made to discover who is supporting the divorced woman and where the ex-husband is living.
