Mr. J. Betts

Registrar, Supreme Court

Hong Kong

Dear Sir,

First of all, I must thank you for the hospitality you

extended to me and my colleagues during our visit to Hong Kong. I

am also grateful for the effort made by you and your colleagues to

bring to a conclusion the matter of mutual assistance between the

courts of Guangdong and the Courts of Hong Kong for the service of

procedural documents in civil and economic proceedings.

On behalf of the Guangdong High People's Court, I have the

honour at this moment to inform you that we agree to implement, with

effect from 1 July, 1988, the seven points concerning mutual assistance

between the High People's Court of Guangdong and the Supreme Court of

Hong Kong for the service of procedural documents in civil and economic

proceedings. That is:

1) Both parties agree that each may entrust to the other

party the service of documents in respect of civil

and economic proceedings. Such documents include:

copy of originating process, copy of notice of

appeal, writ of summons, judgment, mediation award,

letter of decision and notice.

2) When the entrusting party requests the entrusted

party to serve any of the above mentioned procedural

documents, it must produce its written authorization

bearing its seal. The letter of entrustment should

be in the Chinese and English language. It must also

indicate the full name and address of the person

to be served.
