UK VISA ABOLITION AGREEMENTS WITH AUSTRIA AND ARGENTINA

1. Please refer to your minute of 21 March to Mr Henderson at the Passport Office.

2.

Hong Kong Department are in general agreement with your minute. We are keen that the revised VAA with Austria covers BDTC's and BN(0)'s in Hong Kong. At present, BDTC's appear to be visa free but BN (0)'s are not.

3. As for the Argentine VAA, there are obviously other political implications to be considered. It's not quite correct to say that Hong Kong do not want to be covered by the revised agreement. Hong Kong does not object to the proposed arrangements but would like to be included in due course. (A copy of the exchange of telegrams on this is attached).
