A meeting was held with the Tung Chung Rural on 23 May 1990 at which the various problems raised their objection were discussed, together with several new points. It became clear that while the objection was lodged on behalf of the approximately 100 residents at Chek Lap Kok and the 20 mariculturists who will be directly affected by the airport reclamation, the Rural Committee's interest extended to all future new town development within the Tung Chung Valley, which will affect about 1,000 residents.
