The

situation is further

complicated by

by the

location of the Sham Tseng MTR station at the

same location.

ii. The proposed Sham Ma Bridge will require a main

span of

of about 1,000 metres because the north

eastern shoal of Ma Wan Island has to be removed

to satisfy navigational requirements due to the

forecast increase in marine traffic. This will

result in a suspended cable design bridge similar

to Tsing-Ma as being the most economical solution

for that crossing.

iii. The profile of the rail and road alignments from

the south end of the harbour crossings to the

submerged tube west of Green Island must remain

below grade in tunnel as there is not enough

length between those points to use an elevated

viaduct and maintain proper gradient standards.

Separate tubes would also be required due to the

difference in design gradients between road and

rail. This problem was established in previous

PADS Projects studies for the Green Island link.

iv.

In general, the conceptual nature of the Proposal

indicates that there is a significant amount of

engineering study yet to be accomplished before
