In reply to
the Governor said that
whilst there was no formal necessity to obtain
Chinese approval for the new Hong Kong airport, it
was obviously desirable to persuade them to
favourably in order to encourage

investment in the project. But HKG would not
delay the commencement of construction pending a
response from the Chinese. The Chief Secretary
said that the construction of airports in Zhuhai,
Shenzhen and Macau were of a much smaller scale
and they would not rival the new airport in Hong
Kong nor affect HKG's long-term planning of the
facility.
3. In response to
borrowing
