Kai Tak will reach capacity by 1996.

Economic disbenefit 1996 - 2010 if new airport is not built

HK$101 billion (US$12.9 billion).

New airport at Chek Lap Kok -

(a) 1000 ha site;

Two runways capacity of 70-74 'planes/hr;

Potential long term capacity of airport passengers p.a. and 4.4 million tonnes of cargo;

Provisional Airport Authority has been enacted;

consultants for Airport Master Layout Plan to be appointed shortly;

Management consultants to oversee airport and airport related projects; to be appointed shortly;

Advance airport site preparation work to start in early 1991; and

(j) Main works to start in 1992.

Associated with the new airport will be a support community of 150,000 at Tung Chung. A further township for 110,000 at Tai Ho.
