The Governor' s address to the
the Legislative Council of the intention to build the new airport at Chek Lap Kok, and of the plans to develop what effectively will be a new port on the western side of the territory, received considerable media coverage both locally and overseas. The announcement was followed by a major press conference given by the Chief Secretary, and the subsequent issue of approximately 20,000 copies of the PADS brochure "Gateway to New Opportunities". This was distributed locally and to a wide variety of major overseas companies and institutions either directly or via Government's overseas offices.

To ensure that they are properly conversant with the overall programme many major companies have sent senior officials to Hong Kong. They have all been given briefings by senior government officials. At the same time overseas offices have been advised on the guidance they should give to overseas companies expressing interest and, in particular, whom they should contact in Hong Kong to obtain information.

Given that the dissemination of information on PADS is going to be a
a continuing process, it is intended with the establishment of the New Airport Works Division within Works Branch, to also establish a small information unit which will be responsible for handling enquiries and ensuring that all overseas offices are kept fully informed of developments.
