Hang Lung Bank (Acquisition) (Amendment) Bill

I refer to your teleletter of 26 January 1990.

My letter to you dated 9 January 1990 should have referred to my previous letter dated 5 (not 8) January 1990. I enclose a copy of the letter of the 5 January, together with the lastest (4th) draft of the merger bill. The merger bill no longer contains a clause repealing part of the Hang Lung Bank (Acquisition) Ordinance.

You asked if I could supply any background papers relating to this matter. The merger bill is a private measure and I regret that I am unable to supply any such paper. So far as the Hang Lung Bank (Acquisition) (Amendment) Bill is concerned, this is a Governemnt bill that is consequential to the sale by the Government of the Hang Lung Bank. bill merely repeals those provisions that are thought to be inappropriate to a bank in private ownership.
