THE GURKHAS IN HONG KONG

1.

Mr Maude has seen Mr Paul's submission of 13 July and agrees with Lord Brabazon's view (discussed by telephone between Private Secretaries) that the draft letter to Mr Hamilton should deal also with the Gurkhas in Brunei and Nepal, and that it should issue from Lord Brabazon. Mr Maude's further comment on the draft is that the penultimate paragraph does not accurately reflect what the Prime Minister said.

He would be grateful for a revised draft, reflecting these points, which should be submitted through him to Lord Brabazon.
