I have received a letter from the Chairman of the Contemporary China Institute at SOAS proposing a new research project on the relationship between China and Hong Kong up to - and beyond 1997. I enclose a copy.
He
Dr Ash clearly hopes to receive help with the funding and is ready to modify the proposal if that would assist the financial prospects. seeks my advice and comments.
I should like to reply soon, or see him, and appear as helpful as possible, though I fear there will probably be little I can do.
