CONTEMPORARY CHINA INSTITUTE
1.
Please see the attached copy of a letter from
Sir Percy Cradock about the Contemporary China Institute's plans for a new research project on the relationship between China and Hong Kong.
2. I should be grateful for any thoughts you and Miss Major had on the CCI plans and the scope of the project, as requested in Sir Percy's letter.
3. The apparent priority to be given in the project to economic and legal questions may help the CCI find commercial sources of financial help. The only obvious organisations that occur to me to whom the CCI might turn are the Hong Kong Association and the Anglo Hong Kong Trust. But there may be others. Among companies, the ones that come to my mind (and doubtless to CCI's) are those with substantial interest in both Hong Kong and China eg Jardines, Swires, and Cable and Wireless. Some of the major law firms (eg Baker McKenzie, Coward Chance) may be interested given the legal aspects.
But it seems a long-shot.
