SPEECH BY MR MAUDE TO THE SOCIETY OF CONSERVATIVE LAWYERS; 21 MAY: HONG KONG
1.
Please refer to paragraph 1(iii) of PS/Mr Maude's minute of 23 April to Miss Marsden (copy attached).
2. I attach a draft outline speech and draft outline press release to be submitted in this weekend's box. I should be grateful for any comments by noon on 27 April. In the case of the press release, I would particularly welcome comments on the tone and style.
3. Since Mr Fifoot is not in the office on 27 April I am afraid I shall have to ask for comments from him during the course of today. I should stress that the attached draft is an outline speech only: if approved by the Minister we would expect to do more detailed work on it over the next week or two. In doing so, we might draw on the useful work we did for the Lord Chancellor's visit to Hong Kong in December last year.
4. I would welcome ideas for a catchy title.
