Present Position

S for W: For the purpose of employment of professionals by the Government, professional qualifications awarded by HKIA, HKIE and HKIP are already recognised. The HKIS is taking steps to introduce a local qualification scheme acceptable to the Government.

SHW: EXCO approved the establishment of a Hong Kong

Academy of Medicine in September 1989. The Academy will be responsible for setting standards,

organizing/supervising postgraduate medical training and education, and accreditation. A Preparatory Committee was appointed in January 1990 to undertake the work necessary to establish the Academy.
