I enclose a copy of a letter I received from Guo Fengmin following our return to Hong Kong. I should be grateful if you could arrange to pass his gratitude on to those concerned with his visit to Scotland.

2. I think, incidentally, that this was well worthwhile; not only did it enable us to talk about our subjects in a relaxed atmosphere, but it also took some of the personal sting out of what we had been saying to the Chinese. We need to talk toughly to them, but we do not want to make personal enemies of them!
