Beneficiaries are to be allowed an additional option of commuting the monthly dependant pension into a lump sum payment in lieu of employees compensation.
The method of calculation of additional pension is to be modified to remove anomalies by relating the level of benefits directly to the actual percentage of incapacity.
Service pension for retirement on account of duty-related injury after short service, is to be enhanced by doubling an officer's pensionable service, subject to a minimum of 2 yeas and a maximum not exceeding the period of service which the officer would have completed on attaining normal retirement age.
Proposed change to make pension increase a statutory right
The Pensions (Increase) Ordinance (Cap. 305) and The Widows and Orphans Pension (Increase) Ordinance (Cap. 205) are to be amended to make price inflation pension increases a statutory right and to specify the method of annual pension adjustments by reference to the movement of the Consumer Price Index A.
