Medical and Dental Facilities in Hong Kong

(a) Government Medical Facilities

Routine Treatment

Routine treatment may be obtained from two Families Visiting Clinics, which cater exclusively for English-speaking civil servants, or any other Government Medical Clinic.

An officer should make an appointment for himself and/or his dependent family members by telephoning the appropriate Families Visiting Clinic normally on the same side of the harbour as their residence. These clinics are :-

(a) Families Visiting Clinic,

Tang Chi Ngong Specialist Clinic, 4th Floor,

Queens Road East, Hong Kong Island.

(b) Families Visiting Clinic,

Queen Elizabeth Hospital,

Wylie Road, Kowloon.

The addresses of all other Government Medical Clinics and details of facilities available to civil servants and their dependents are notified in Department of Health Circulars, copies of which may be obtained from the Departmental Secretary.

Emergency Treatment

Emergency treatment can be obtained from the Accident and Emergency Department of any Government Hospital at any time.

Hospitalisation

An officer and his dependents are normally accommodated in a public ward. They may be provided with beds in a private ward (i.e. Ist or 2nd class ward) subject to availability.

(b) Dental Facilities

Government Dental Clinics

An officer may make an appointment for himself and/or his dependent family members by telephoning any Government Dental Clinic. Addresses of dental clinics can be found in the Government Telephone Directory. There is currently a waiting period of about seven to nine months for a routine dental appointment. When a course of dental treatment is completed, officers will be asked to contact the Dental Clinic concerned either in person or by telephone during a specified month so as to book an appointment for further checkup.
