SENTENCES OF LIFE IMPRISONMENT IN HONG KONG?

- As at 25 November 1990, there are 127 convicted

murderers serving life imprisonment.

HOW LONG ARE THEIR TERMS OF IMPRISONMENT IN PRACTICE?

A sentence of life imprisonment means actual life.

Since 1966, 242 convicted murderers have had their

death sentences commuted. of these 130 were commuted

to life; 65 to periods of 20-30 years; and only 5 to periods of 10 years or less.

ARE THEIR PRISON CONDITIONS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE OF

OTHER PRISONERS?

- Prison conditions are no different to those of any long term high risk prisoner.
