Hong Kong's dialogue with the Organization for Economic
Co-operation and Development (OECD)
to the high technology of COCOM member countries. Access to high technology is of great importance to Hong Kong as an international commercial, investment and financial centre as well as in terms of its industrial
development. The future of COCOM arrangements for Hong Kong remains a very
sensitive issue with the information technology sector in particular voicing concern about continued access to high technology products.
Hong Kong attended an informal seminar between the OECD and four Asian economies (namely, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea) held in January 1989. Participation in the seminar was tripartite, i.e. Government, academic and business representatives.
Further
dialogue between the OECD and some of the Asian
economies will continue.
Further dialogue being worked out in the form of four workshops to be held during February-April 1990 to cover subjects of investment and technology, financial markets, macroeconomic linkage and trade. Hong Kong has agreed to take part in all workshops and attended the workshop on financial markets held in late February in Paris.
