Immigration from China
Entry to Hong Kong from China for resettlement purposes sùbject to one-way permit scheme implemented by China. There has been criticism that the scheme fails to cater for family reunion cases. However, immigration statistics show that of the 27,000 arrivals in 1989, over 24,000 joined spouses and parents in Hong Kong.
Need to maintain control of Chinese residents entering Hong Kong.
