So far, there has only been limited public interest in the future use of valuable sites now occupied by the British Forces. The matter is sensitive because it raises the question of the time-table for the run-down and replacement of the Garrison.

Works

Negotiations needed to agree terms of advance to help finance expanded water supply scheme from East River. Water pricing, flexibility of supply and technical requirements will also be included in the agreement.

Presently under discussion with the Chinese Government.

Shenzhen River flood Control

Improve existing Shenzhen River to reduce the risk of flooding at the northern districts of Hong Kong Territory. River training works between Lo Wu and its estuary at Deep Bay to be jointly undertaken by Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Stage I of the works at the Lok Ma Chau and Liu Pok bends will be entrusted to Shenzhen for

construction.

Preparation work for the Stage I is substantially completed. No further action is required for Stage I and II works until the negotiation with Shenzhen authority is resumed.
