Description of Voyage

Boatmaster : HUYNH VY HUNG

This group of 15 comprising clansmen and relatives was organized by the boatmaster. They left HO CHI MINH for HAI PHONG by ferry on 30-3-89. Three days later, they came to HAI PHONG and rested for one night. They then proceeded to HAI NINH by ferry. Upon arrival, they actively sought for assistance from local residents in order to cross the border to China. Finally, through a VN/M, they successfully bribed the Vietnamese officials at the cost from 50,000 Dongs to 80,000 Dongs per head. Therefore, all of them went through the official check point without any inspection or enquiry. Having been conveyed by a small boat, they arrived at DONG XING (

) of China where they met no PRC official. On the following day, a C/M promised to take them to FANG CHENG (3) ebx) by boat at a cost of RMB $80 per head. GUANG ZHOU (4) and then to TAI a motorized fishing boat at RMB $8,000.
