Informant : GIANG NANG QUẢNG

Subject was an ECVII from China. He migrated to China from Vietnam in 1978. He was assi sted to settle at GUANG XI, CHINA since then. In August 1989, he left China and went to DONG NAI, S.VN. to visit his relatives. He stayed there until March 1990 and joined the exodus to come to Hong Kong. He arrived in Hong Kong together with Group I on 17-4-90.

The VBP had no knowledge of the followings :-

(a)

screening policy

(b) mandatory/forced repatriation

(c)

that they would be placed on a deserted island after their arrival in Hong Kong.

(d) whether the Sino-Vietnamese border was closed or control tightened.

All 17 VBP were landcrossers from Vietnam to China. They had not encountered PRC officials throughout their journey to Hong Kong.

Total no. of unaccompanied minor under the age of 18: 5(3B, 2G).

5. They chose to come to Hong Kong instead of other countries due to safety reasons.
